How To Build A Cheap Home Recording Booth

Home recording is much more economical than ever before, primarily because of the rise of lower priced, more-effective personal computers and a plethora of relatively inexpensive software programs. After all, software like FL Studio can be had for well under $100 and a decent mic can be had for about the same. Even so, absolutely no software can emulate one particular crucial component of a recording: a clear vocal take. With a little imagination, a trip to the local home improvement store plus some elbow grease you can create a media sound booth that will help you nail a perfect vocal take, with minimal background sound.

Listed Here Are The Things You Require:

 9  x 10-foot by 1-inch Schedule 40 PVC plumbing pipe
 12 x  1-inch PVC T couplers
 6 x 1-inch PVC 90-degree elbows
 24 x 1-inch PVC pipe caps
 4 x 72-inch by 60-inch mover's blankets
6  squeeze hand clamps (more, if desired)
 1  clamp light
 1  CFL bulb
 Tubing cutter/hacksaw
 Tape measure
 Sharpie
 Bungee cable (optional)

Step 1
Cut the larger pipe into the following increments:
Cut in half three of the 10-foot PVC pipes making six 5-foot sections of PVC piping to be used as the top and bottom of the body.
Cut the remaining piping into 6-foot increments creating 6 6-foot segments of piping to be used as the sides of the frame.
Cut the rest of the piping into 1-foot increments producing 24 1-foot portions of piping to get used as feet.

Step 2
Attach a couple of the 6-foot side pieces to two of the 5-foot top and bottom portions. Use two 90-degree elbows to connect the pieces at the top corners, and two T couplers to connect towards the bottom corners.

Step 3
Create your support feet by connecting 1-foot increments of piping to a T coupler. The piping must be inserted so it forms the base of a standing letter T when connected to the coupler. Insert end caps into open ends of the T coupler.

Step 4
Connect feet by inverting the T and connecting piping to the open coupler.

Step 5
Duplicate steps 2 through 4 to produce two more support frames.

Step 6
Put together the frames as an open-sided box. Drape mover's covers over every shape, and keep them in place by using clamps.

Step 7
If additional balance is wanted, affix frames together by using bungee cables.

Step 8
Affix a clamp light to front frame and insert a bulb. Hang a final blanket over the top of the frames.

Tips

While this specific system is often very effective in restricting background sound, keep in mind that location is critical. Attempt to utilize this booth in as a quiet a spot as possible.

Always record with the performer facing a frame with two support frames on both sides. The vocalist's body will be able to form a natural barrier, effectively becoming the fourth wall when recording.

If space reaches limited, you can certainly set up your booth with only two frames. Configure two frames flush within a corner, creating a "V," and have your performer record, facing the corner.

These individual structures are really straightforward to store, disassemble and transfer. Do not feel forced to make use of them in one area. You can use it anywhere you need to!
